“Do not be like the cat who wanted a fish but was afraid to get his paws wet.” ~ William Shakespeare
Many people have dreams, if act upon, can benefit not only themselves but also others. Yet, they let fear and doubt keep them from putting their feet into the water. They envision all types of obstacles or situations that would prevent them from being successful in making these dreams a reality.
Dream, plan, act then jump in. Don’t be afraid to Get Wet to taste the victory of catching that fish!

“Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.” ~ Helen Keller
It is no surprise that Pharrell Williams’ song “Happy” is such a successful hit with many people across age groups, cultures and nations. People enjoy being happy. I haven’t met many people who enjoy being sad or down. In fact, most successful people I meet seem generally happy.
In the infancy of my corporate career, one of my managers called me into his office one morrning. He pointed out that my attitude was affecting the team. He said that when I came into the office with a great attitude it was as though the sun was shining. When I came in with a bad attitude, the place was gloomy. Whether I knew it or not many of my team members saw me as leader. As such everyone around me couldn’t help but become contagious with my attitude: good or bad.
This was an eye opener for me. I became more aware of my impact on others because of my attitude. Now most often I choose to be happy. This doesn’t mean that I don’t have bad days, it just means I choose how I react to each situation. By choosing to see things working out for the best, I feel better and happier. Happiness is a choice and is within you. Take Helen Keller’s advice “Keep Happy!”

Diamond Nugget: “In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.” ~ Albert Camus
There will be periods of harshness in most of our lives, similar to the coldest of wintery days. The difficulties of life snatch our warm breath of joy, pelting us with icicles of pain, doubt and despair. It is at times like these that we ought to:
Follow Albert Camus’ example and draw on the invincible summer of hope, determination and belief residing deep within us
Find that true purpose that will gives us the strength to press through our troubles
Connect with mentors who will show us ways to get beyond certain obstacles that we may not know how to overcome
It is in recalling the passionate, sparkling seasons of our lives that we may see beyond the lackluster travails we encounter….finding our invincible summer in winter.
Here are three great Gems I got from the Heat Trio (Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade and Lebron James):
Did you know you can pick up some great Diamond Nuggets from the NBA Champs? Here are some I gained from last night’s Heat-Pacers wrap-up session on ESPN:
❖ Don’t over think it
❖ Play your game
❖ Focus
Watching the wrap-up session of game four of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals between the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers, I heard these three things that can be effective in accomplishing any project or plan.
When he was asked why he got the game off to a smart start by scoring 3 baskets, Chris Bosh stated that he stopped overthinking it (his performance). He decided to just do what he knows: play the game. How many times have you been paralyzed by overthinking a task or getting started in one of your goals? Do like Bosh said: stop overthinking it. Get out there and do what you know. Believe in your ability to get it done!
In his response to a reporters question about playing mind games against his opponents, Dwayne Wade said he and his teammates don’t engage in this. Instead, they go out and play the game of basketball the best way they know how to do it. My take away is to play your game and not someone’s idea of what your game should be. You are in control of you. Do what works best for you in your life.
Finally, Lebron James reminded the audience about being focused on getting the job done. He doesn’t let what his opponents may say on and off the court to affect his performance on the court. He remains focus on winning another NBA Championship. He focuses on what he has to do between the lines that spans 94 feet (the length of the court) to win the game. If we focus on and do the things that help us achieve our goals, we become champions of our lives.
“I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number you get in a diamond.” ~ Mae West
Mae West was known for her great one-liners. This one is quite humorous to me. The message I take from this is: Don’t become distracted by the little things in life, keep your eyes on the important ones.
