3 Ways to Think Like a Champion

“Why not you?” “Why not us?” “We play like champs everyday.” These are three things that Seattle Seahawks’ young quarterback, Russell Wilson, said on Sunday as some of the reason for the team winning the Super Bowl. These are simple statements with powerful impacts.

1) “Why not you?” This is what Russell’s father asked him when Russell doubted whether he would be able to enter the NFL at 5’11.” Russell’s dad saw his son’s potential and planted the seed that erased his doubts. Most importantly Russell believe what his dad said about him and acted upon it. He changed his way of thinking. He made it to the NFL and as starting quarterback. Ask yourself “Why not me?” when you have doubts about your abilities to achieve a goal or dream.

2) “Why not us?” Russell, being one of the leaders of his team, used the lesson he learned from his dad and taught it to his teammates. He challenged them to see themselves as champions, even when others doubted that they could or would be. His teammates changed their way of thinking about themselves. They started seeing themselves as champions. How do your thoughts and beliefs affect others around you? To become a champion, you have to be able to positively impact the folks around you. You have to infect them with your championship thoughts!

3) “We play like champs everyday.” This is the championship thought in action. When you accept that you are a champion, when you infect others around you with championship thoughts, then you must play like a champion in order to win and win big! Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl in a dominant fashion. They won BIG!!

Give It Time

Are you feeling that no matter what you do, you are running into obstacles? You try one thing and another and they aren’t working? Are you struggling with a big decision you have to make? Or perhaps you are in a situation that doesn’t feel right? JUST GIVE IT TIME!

In the past and even today, this has worked out for me. Keep fighting. You are not alone. Keeping pushing. P.U.S.H. Pray Until Something Happens! When we are in the midst of the storm, it is hard to see the beautiful rainbow and sunlight ahead. JUST GIVE IT TIME!

Stop Slip Slidin’ Away

Yesterday, while channel surfing on the car radio, I stopped to listen to Paul Simon’s song “Slip Slidin’ Away.” I never really paid attention to the words, the hundreds of times I have heard the song. Then, I truly listened and felt the note of caution the words expressed. At least that’s how I connected with the song. The thought of life’s dreams, goals or purposes slipping and slidin’ away from us, the closer we get to them, is a scary and a real one.

So many times we allow our dreams and aspirations to get away from us. We learn to settle in jobs, routines and self-doubts, instead of implementing: persistence, being consistent in the resistance of imagined trepidations. The haunting lyrics of the song popped into my head at 5 a.m. as I woke and prepare for my morning exercise. I headed to the beach to see the beauty of the sunrise and the magnificence of the ocean waves. They reminded me of the possibility of achieving greatness, if we just decide to be consistent in our resistance of our fears and the persistence of our purpose. Stop slip slidin’ away and start believing and living your Diamond Life…your Life of Purpose!

Mentoring Sarah Noel – Refreshing and Renewing

Throughout the years, I have had the benefit of having great mentors in my life. This made it easy for me to decide that I want to become a mentor to others. One of the organizations of which I am a member and act as a mentor, is the ITWomen organization. This group raises scholarship funds for young women pursuing careers in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) arena; provide networking opportunity for women in technology; and also mentors young women (and some men) in these areas.

At one of the schools that I visited to share the ins and outs of college life with the students, I met Sarah Noel. The first time I saw her, she had a copy of Les Miserable in her hand. I asked her if she had to read it for a class. She replied “No. I wanted to read it for myself. I like to read.” I immediately told her that I know she will be a great leader one day…great leaders like to read as well. That was over two years ago. Sarah and I have kept in contact with each other due to our kindred spirits in seeking to help others.

This past week she shared the picture of her in her cap and gown as she prepares to graduate from high school and continue her education at undergraduate level. The joy that I feel in seeing her picture gives me such hope for her future success. The amazing thing about my interaction with Sarah is that as I encouraged, mentored and shared with her my experiences; Sarah was opening my eyes to the wonders of believing and pursuing one’s dreams.

As adults sometimes the busyness of life causes us to push aside our dreams and aspirations. Mentoring Sarah and others like her helps me to keep my focus on my dreams. Thank you Sarah for giving me the opportunity to serve you and in the process develop myself as well. I know you are focused on living a Diamond Life, a Life of Purpose!

Do-It-Anyway-Thursday

Do-It-Anyway-Thursday, especially when you don’t feel like doing it…

1) Want to work out but don’t feel like it, get up, get dressed, get going
anyway
2) Want to write that book but the words don’t come, start typing anyway
3) Want to give that speech but feeling fearful, give it anyway
4) Need to make more sales call but fear rejection, pick up the phone, smile
and dial, call anyway
5) Want to start that non-profit foundation, but not sure how the start,
research, reach out and start it anyway
6) Going on that audition and not sure if the role is for you, give it your best
anyway

The sky is not the limit, when you do it anyway. Keep pushing and see you on the side of Living the Diamond Life! Living a Life of Purpose!
